We focused on translating the studio's values into a singular visual symbol. Drawing inspiration from medieval heraldry, gothic iconography, battle standards, and the meticulous nature of miniature painting. The concepts, and final select, sought to capture both the artistic and the technical sides of the craft.
Rather than rely on literal representations of miniatures, the exploration centered around creating an emblematic identity. One capable of standing alongside the highly detailed worlds and armies that collectors invest in. After a bit of testing, we landed on not only an icon, but a visual system that are strong, but do not overpower the craft.
Conquering Color
The color palette was selected to balance the dark, atmospheric nature of the miniature gaming world with a sense of craftsmanship and professionalism. Deep navy provides a strong foundation rooted in strategy and discipline, while the muted steel blue introduces a refined, painterly quality. Warm parchment tones reference aged manuscripts, heraldry, and the rich lore often associated with tabletop universes, creating contrast against the bold crimson accent used to evoke passion, dedication, and the spirit of battle.
Together, the palette creates a visual language that feels both premium and immersive, capturing the artistry behind the work without relying on genre clichés.

The final identity captures the balance between artistry and discipline that defines Penance Painting Studio. The mark is inspired by craftsmanship, dedication, and the rich visual language of tabletop gaming. The brand establishes a distinct presence within a highly passionate community.
More than a logo, the identity serves as a badge of quality, reflecting the care, patience, and expertise required to transform unpainted miniatures into finished works of art.
Forging the Mark
Multiple directions were explored throughout the process, each investigating different interpretations of the Penance Painting Studio brand. Concepts ranged from painter-focused iconography and symbolic brush elements to more heraldic and gothic-inspired forms. Each direction tested how the brand could communicate precision, creativity, and craftsmanship while remaining memorable at both large and small scales.
This exploration process ensured the final identity wasn't simply the first solution, it was the strongest and most effective representation of the client's vision.
